This was my first time to this cool funky place. It was a private wine tasting event but what a great evening. The owner Helen is very warm and gracious and made me feel so welcomed. I learned that they have Jazz on Mondays as well as live music other days of the week. Along with local beautiful artwork that is for sale. All in all a great laid back little gem in Port Moody.
Great atmosphere. Friendly, artsy, and cozy, playing great music over the speakers. Service was prompt and friendly. Food was delicious and came quickly. Great coffee. I'll have to come back when they have live music (which turns out to be quite often (3 times per week)). I went on a Saturday at around 11 and it wasn't busy at all, although a few more people showed up near the end of my visit. Too bad it's a little far from my normal stomping grounds, because I'll definitely have to come back. Great little cozy, quirky bistro.
Went to see the Revolusun last night. The band was lively and were excellent performers. Unfortunately the food was no where the same quality. The single plates were priced at $40 and were more suited to a hospital cafeteria than a special menu offered alongside a performance. The 'dining experience' consisted of coleslaw, canned corn with red peppers added and ground meat added to what appeared to be left over hash browns from brunch. Not only was the meal lacklustre to say the least, but service was sparse and inattentive for the possible 20 customers seated in the room. The $40 per person bill did not include desserts or even a coffee from the bistro. As their website described 'special menus' for events, we expected something on par for the cost. This definitely did not live up to our expectations. The next time you want to spend $40 a plate for a meal, I recommend not going to the Gallery Bistro unless you want to recreate a trip to a retirement facility. They offer "wholesome and local produce" on the website prepared by a "chef". Not so. Our plate was dropped in front of us minutes after arriving and before even being offered a drink or even water. The "Mexico sounds and tastes" announced on the webpage were closer to a trip to a New Mexico Wal-Mart opening than a culinary and musical journey. Definitely not what was advertised. Come on Gallery Bistro, your customers deserve more than that.
Food: 5/5Service: 4/5Entertainment: 5/5Ambience: 3/5Notes: Very good about accommodating food allergies and sensitivities including gluten-freeGallery Bistro is one of the gems that make Port Moody such an amazing little city. This venue has incredible food that has been carefully and loving prepared for guests to the venue. For those with a good allergy or sensitivity, you can call in prior to the day of your reservation and the chef will prepare a custom dish for you based on your needs. What other restaurant takes that much care? The service is excellent as well - very curious and helpful. A little slow sometimes due to how busy and packed the venue is but nothing to completion about. The entertainment here is great with many different events going on throughout each month. We've been here twice and both times were impressed with the show. The building itself is on the older side which means it also has the inevitable old wood angel that haunts older buildings. The chairs and tables are somewhat comfortable although after sitting for two or three hours they tend to feel a little uncomfortable.Overall this is an excellent venue, extremely highly recommended. We will be returning here for sure.
Can't rate the food because I haven't seen any yet. Slow and disorganized. Too bad it looked like a nice spot.
